Brenton Proving Ground Returns: Free Hands-On Shooting Day, October 17

Brenton Proving Ground Returns: Free Hands-On Shooting Day, October 17

For years, a line on the map decided what southern Michigan hunters could carry in the woods.

That line is gone.

Starting this season, hunters can use any legal firearm, including bottleneck cartridges, anywhere in the Lower Peninsula. That opens up more cartridge options, flatter trajectories, and longer ethical shots for thousands of hunters.

So this Saturday, we’re bringing back Brenton Proving Ground, and we’re putting a rifle built for exactly this moment in your hands.

What Is Brenton Proving Ground?

Brenton Proving Ground is a free, hands-on shooting day at our facility in Michigan. No sales pitch. No pressure. No reservation needed.

We launched it in July. Hunters showed up, shot our rifles, and talked builds with the team that makes them. We called it the first of a recurring series, and round two is how we keep that promise.

What Changed in Michigan

Here’s the short version:

  • The Limited Firearms Deer Zone has been eliminated. It used to restrict much of southern Michigan to shotguns, muzzleloaders, and straight-wall cartridges.
  • Bottleneck cartridges are now legal throughout the Lower Peninsula. Rounds like 6.5 Grendel and 6mm ARC are now an option for hunters who couldn’t use them before.
  • Regular firearm season opens November 15. That’s less than a month away.

If you’ve hunted southern Michigan with a slug gun or a straight-wall rifle, this is your first season with more options. The right rifle can make a real difference.

Always check the current Michigan DNR Hunting Regulations Summary for full details.

The Spotlight: Brenton Tracker 22"

The Tracker is built for hunters who want more reach.

It has the same precision and reliability as our Scout Series, plus a longer 22" barrel that adds velocity in our smaller calibers. More velocity means a flatter trajectory and more energy at distance. That’s what you want when a buck steps out at the far edge of a bean field.

What makes the Tracker stand out

  • 22" 416R stainless barrel in a hunter profile, built for added velocity
  • Sub-MOA guarantee. Every Brenton rifle is guaranteed sub-MOA capable with suitable ammunition and optics.
  • TriggerTech Duty trigger with a clean, 3.5 lb break
  • Breek Arms WARHAMMER ambidextrous charging handle
  • Bottleneck chamberings including 6.5 Grendel, 6mm ARC, 224 Valkyrie, and 22 Nosler, plus straight-wall options like 350 Legend and 450 Bushmaster
  • Marblekote™ finishes: Harvest, Autumn, Foliage, Midnight, and Snow
  • Forever Warranty against defects in materials and workmanship

What You’ll Get to Do

Shoot the Tracker

Get behind the Tracker and see what a 22" barrel and a bottleneck cartridge can do. Feel the trigger. Watch the groups. Judge it for yourself.

Talk cartridges with people who know them

New to bottleneck rounds? Not sure whether 6.5 Grendel or 6mm ARC fits how you hunt? That’s exactly the conversation we want to have.

See Marblekote in person

Photos don’t do the finish justice. Compare every colorway side by side in natural light.

Map out your build

Chambering, colorway, and accessories. Leave with a clear picture of the Tracker built for your hunt.

Who You’ll Be Talking To

Brandon Kafer will be running the day on-site with the Brenton team. They build, test, and stand behind every rifle we make. Bring your questions.

Get Dialed In Before November 15

Opening day is coming fast. Standard assembly time on a Brenton build is about two weeks, so the sooner you lock in your configuration, the sooner it’s in your hands.
